St Anne’s C of E (A) Primary News
“Developing the whole child, spiritually, mentally and physically in a caring Christian
environment through close links to the Church and Community”
Friday 21st March 2025
Dear Parents & Carers,
Spring Has Sprung!
With the arrival of spring comes a sense of renewal and hope. As we step into this season, we look forward to exciting events and opportunities to come together as a school community.
Centenary Celebrations – Share Your Memories!
A huge thank you to the parents (all of which were ex pupils!) who joined me to help plan our centenary celebrations! We are eager to hear from anyone with memories, photos, or ideas on how we can commemorate this special milestone. How would you like to celebrate? Please share your thoughts with us!
Parent Academy Consultation
Thank you to those who attended the Mitre Parent Consultation Meeting and raised valuable questions. All responses will be carefully considered by the Governing Body. If you were unable to attend, don’t forget you can still send your feedback/ questions to consultations@st-annes.notts.sch.uk. The consultation tab on the website has further information. The consultation closes on the 4th of April 2025.
A Reminder About Watches in School
We encourage children from Class 3 upwards to wear a wristwatch to help them learn to tell the time. However, please ensure that watches with additional features such as games or apps (e.g., Minecraft) are not worn in school, as they can be a distraction to learning.
Did You Know? – Bassetlaw Family Hub
The Bassetlaw Family Hub in Manton is there to support families with a range of services, including housing, social care, benefit support, parenting advice, parenting groups and early help for children aged 0-19. If you need support, this could be a valuable resource for you.

Farewell to Mrs. Pearson
At Easter, we will be saying goodbye to Mrs. Pearson, who has been a valued part of St. Anne’s for 15 years. Having started as a 1:1 support assistant, she has gone on to lead group sessions and most recently worked with children in ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) sessions. Gradually reducing her hours, she has been embracing an exciting new role as an Adoption Support Worker, a role in which we know she will make a real difference. We are incredibly grateful for her dedication and impact over the years—she will be greatly missed by us all!
Behind the scenes, Miss Howarth has been completing her ELSA training, ensuring that our school continues to offer this vital support for our pupils.
Sporting news
The Football Team experienced a win last night against Langold with a 2-0 victory. Goals scored by Lewis A and Lewis K. Well done to all.
FOSAS News (Friends of St Anne’s)
Don’t forget the ‘Mother’s Day Secret Giftshop’ will take place on the Wednesday 26th and Thursday 27th March after school. If the weather is dry, the stall with the special goods will be on the KS2 playground. Items are priced at £2 and £3, and we hope the children will support this event and treat the special lady in their families.
FOSAS Easter Event – 3rd April 2025 3pm. Now is the time to be thinking about your Easter egg design. Don’t forget the eggs need to be hard boiled. Here are some designs we have had in years gone by!
There will be a cake stall, colouring and guess the weight of the cake. They would be grateful for any cakes…….. AND let’s not forget an EASTER EGG HUNT around the school grounds.
Pirate Holiday Club
A pirate themed Easter Holiday Club will run in St Anne’s Church Hall from Monday 14th – Wednesday 16th April, 10am-12pm. This is for all classes. No pre booking, just turn up on the days that you wish your child to attend.

News from the Classes
Class Reception
This week Class Reception have been continuing to share the story ‘The Three Little Pigs’. They have been thinking about how homes have changed over time and what is similar and what is different. In PE, the children have been busy composing and performing a spring dance where they jumped, spun, travelled and worked with a partner as they pretended to be spring bunnies.
Class One
An alien crash landed in Class 1 this week! When the children arrived on Monday morning, a strange yellow creature with three eyes had landed in the reading area. It looked like it came with a spaceship, and a book, and even left a hole in the roof.
The children are currently investigating the creature and deciding whether they want to keep it or not. They have written a letter to NASA to see if they know anything about it. They also wrote an email to the author of the book 'Beegu' to see if they know anything about it, and if they can help.
Class Two
This week Class 2 performed their class assembly in front of the whole school and many parents. They showcased their recent learning about the history of mining along with their artwork. It was a joy to see them performing their class poem 'The Sound Collector' by Roger McGough and their favourite, 'The Boneyard Rap' by Wes Magee.
Class Three
This week Class 3 have been completing their independent write. This is a diary entry based on the story of ‘Romulus and Remus’. The children have been including key features of writing such as conjunctions and adverbs. In Maths, the children have been developing their knowledge of mass. As part of this unit, they explored different weights and what they look like on a set of scales. They then had to compare different masses using scales.
In science, the children have pushed their learning further with plants based around the parent workshop last week. In Geography, the children took on the role of a Roman Commander, setting out a speech for their army of how a new piece of land will be used. The children were very enthusiastic getting into this role as a commander, setting out land for houses, trade links and temples. The Class are also busy rehearsing for the Easter performance at the end of term service.
Class Four
In science this week, Class 4 have been investigating evaporation. They were tasked with setting up their own scientific enquiry to find the best way to dry washing. They planned their own investigation thinking about which materials they would test, the volume of water on each material and the location they would place the materials to dry. They used their results to draw conclusions on the optimum conditions for evaporation.
On Wednesday, the children were visited by Marty the robot, this was to support the development of physical programming, and the children used the coloured cards to create an algorithm for Marty to complete. In history, they have been learning about the Viking invasion routes and their homelands/settlements. They then compared life in a Viking village to an Anglo-Saxon settlement using their prior knowledge.
Class Five
Class 5 benefitted from an amazing Ancient Egyptian day this week. The children followed an action-packed, interactive timetable which included dance, drama, problem solving, art, fact-finding and a quiz! Did you know that it was believed that cats were divine and had magical powers, or that ‘pharaoh’ translates as ‘great house’? The children hope to share some of their learning in Class assembly next week.
In English, pupils have investigated information texts to create notes which will be used to write non-chronological reports about life for children in Ancient Egypt. In Maths, the children have deepened their understanding of decimals to include working with thousandths, making clear links to earlier learning about fractions- next step, percentages!
Class Six
Class 6 have finished their descriptions this week and have made an extra effort to use those stage six features and work on their ambitious vocabulary.
During maths, they have completed their unit on measurement, where they have learnt the equations for solving the area of a rectangle, triangle, and parallegram. Children have also learnt that LXWXH is how we find the volume of a cuboid.
During their geography lesson, children researched the biomes of the world and then focussed in on a desert or tropical rainforest, to understand the conditions in Central America.
In PE children have continued to work on their rallies in badminton and continue to add steps to their dances. Children are also working hard in their groups to form a mini assembly for their DART graduation.
Congratulations to our Stars of the Week this week

A Springtime Prayer
Dear God,
Thank you for the gift of spring,
For sunshine, rain and the new life they bring.
For flowers blooming and birds in the sky,
For laughter and play as the days pass by.
Help us to grow like the trees so tall,
To be kind and caring to one and all.
Fill our hearts with love and light,
And guide our steps to do what is right. Amen
