environment through close links to the Church and Community”

                                                                                                          Friday 7th March 2025

Dear Parents & Carers,

We’ve had a busy week at school this week and as you are aware Ofsted visited the school. The process began on Monday with a series of remote meetings, with a further two days in school. We’d like to thank all parents who completed the Ofsted survey and took the time to speak with the Inspector on the playground.  The process included many opportunities for the children to talk to Ofsted, as well as focused discussions and observations in line with the ‘Ofsted Inspection Framework’. The outcome will be known once the quality assurance process is complete. The school will share communication from Ofsted as soon as it is received.

Lent – A Time for Reflection and Kindness

On Wednesday, Rev Dave and Claire led the school in the ‘Ash Wednesday Service’, where an opportunity was given for children, staff and adults who joined us to be ‘ashed’. As we journey through Lent, the children have been learning about its meaning—a time for reflection, kindness, and thinking of others. Many are choosing to give something up or take on a kind act each day, such as helping at home, sharing with friends, or showing extra kindness. We’ve also talked about how other faiths have times of fasting, reflection, and generosity, such as Ramadan in Islam and Yom Kippur in Judaism. It’s a wonderful opportunity to think about how kindness connects us all. Please encourage the children to complete their ’24 Acts of Kindness sheets’ and bring them to me.

World Book Day – A Celebration of Stories!

Our school was bursting with creativity as children dressed up as their favourite book characters for World Book Day on Tuesday! It was fantastic to see so many wonderful costumes and to hear the children talk passionately about their favourite stories.  Work in classes was based on the wordles book, ‘The Journey’. It was shared that books open the ‘doors of opportunity,’ inspiring imagination, learning, and a love of reading that can last a lifetime. We will be judging the ‘stories in a box’ later today – thank you for all the wonderful entries.

International Women’s Day – Inspiring Role Models

Next week, we’ll be celebrating International Women’s Day on Monday by encouraging children to think about the women who inspire them. From scientists like Marie Curie to musicians, artists, athletes, and family members, we’ll be sharing stories of incredible women from all around the world.  We invite children to come ready to talk about someone who has inspired them!  They have been asked to write some sentences about why the person they have chosen has inspired them – each participant will earn ‘10 House Points’ for their team.

Celebrating 100 Years of St Anne’s

If you would like to support Mrs Middleton in planning for a ‘100 year’ celebration of all that is St Anne’s and what makes our school so special, you are invited into a ‘Cup of tea and planning session’ on Friday 14th March 2025 at 2pm.

Year 1 Phonics Workshop

Thank you to the parents who attended the workshop about the ‘screening’ test that the Year 1 children will take next term – please see Miss Decouto should you require any more information.

News from the Classes

Class Reception

This week it was great to see Class Reception dressed up on Tuesday for ‘World Book Day’.  They watched a video clip of the book the ‘Journey’ and then they made their own performance poem imagining they had gone on a journey through a traditional tale land. They are beginning to look at the world around them and this week focused on different types of houses and different areas such as the countryside, cities, towns and villages.

Class One

In Science, Class 1 looked at real plants to identify the different parts. They explored plants to see if they all had the same parts, and noticed that some flowers didn't have leaves, and some plants didn't have flowers. They could talk about what each part of the plant did, and they labelled a real carnation to show their learning.

Class Two

In Science, Class 2 have begun their new Unit of Learning on 'Living Things and their Habitats'.  They have classified objects as living, dead or never alive, which produced some wonderful discussions.  For example, the children were asking questions such as Is a seed alive?  They have looked at a variety of animals and are beginning to understand why they are suited to a particular habitat.

Class Three

A busy week for Class 3! This week has seen them celebrate World Book Day, Shrove Tuesday, and Ash Wednesday. In English, they used their knowledge of diary entries to write an extract for the book ‘Journey’ by Aaron Becker. The children were full of enthusiasm for this picture book and were able to use both their reading comprehension skills to unpick the book and then their writing skills to construct a diary entry for one of the pages.  In Maths, the children have been developing their fractions knowledge by ordering and comparing a variety of fractions using key vocabulary such as numerator and denominator.

In other parts of the curriculum, the children took on the role of Geographers to explore changing geographical features in Ancient Rome to Rome now. The children thoroughly enjoyed viewing a 3D Ai generated video of Ancient Rome to help them compare. In Science the children have begun the topic of Plants, this unit builds on their previous learning from Class 1. For the start of the unit, the children recapped parts of a flowering plant and then developed that knowledge by researching the function of each part. Great work this week Class 3!

Class Four

It has been a busy week in Class 4 starting off the week with science learning about changing states. Class 4 learnt how materials change state when heat is applied or removed.  On Tuesday, the children enjoyed celebrating world book day.  They enjoyed sharing the text ‘Journey’ by Aaron Becker and wrote setting descriptions based on his illustrations.  There were some fabulous costumes on display too. In history, year 4 began their learning on the Vikings focusing on who they were and where they came from. They used artefacts to support their learning.

Class Five

This week Class 5 were enthused by the book ‘Journey’ on World Book Day.  They used inference to work out how the character of this wordless book was feeling before creating a line graph of emotion.  They also discussed how the book could be a metaphor, the journey from loneliness to friendship and the power of imagination. In History, having investigated the Ancient Egyptian social structure, they discussed slavery in the context of the British Value of democracy.  In Computing, the pupils continued their learning about Crumbles, using them to control an output.  They also began to learn the Haka in dance……maybe that could become part of the St. Anne’s fixtures!!!

Class Six

This week in Class 6 the children really enjoyed world book day and wrote their own narratives to accompany the wordless book 'Journey.'  In maths they have been converting fractions, percentages and decimals by converting, fractions to hundredths. In PE children have been working on the serve, ready to play a game of badminton. During the week, children were invited to be 'ashed' within the Ash Wednesday service.  Children have continued to write non-chronological reports in English about their 'curious creatures.'  During their history learning they have compared Ancient Egyptian and Ancient Maya civilizations.

Congratulations to our Stars of the Week this week
